Living in Georgia (the country) aka Sakartvelo aka Grusia

From Mexico · October 2026

Arrived: Visa-free entry

Arriving is usually not a big issue, and I am always asked to show my luggage because of Narcos references. I set up my bank account, set myself as a small business, and pay 1% taxes. You can get an address from people outside of the gov office for a $, then it takes a few visits to the tax office to get yourself set up, and on you go. Do not miss your monthly taxes before the 15th and keep it under a certain quantity (120k I think or something) and below 4k in 6 months to avoid extra VAT declaration. Technically, you should stay over 6 mo every year, but it is not an issue AFAIK, and an accountant confirmed this. I did not feel any recrimination or issues; they seemed to be more busy with RS for that, but I heard bad experiences from Indian migrants. Teenagers can sometimes be aggressive; use common sense. Tbilisi and Batumi are great cities to live in, and there is a large expat set of communities. English is pretty common in the large cities, and nightlife is quite great. Don't expect to pay under 1.2k a mo for rent on nice areas like Vake or Saburtalo for an apartment, and if you just want a 6-month contract, it is quite harder to find; get there with a month’s Airbnb and take your time before committing. Making local friends is not hard.
